Saint Vitus in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is hands down New York City’s best metal venue. The place has an amazing atmosphere, and manages to book big-time bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, Carcass, and the remaining members of Nirvana, even though they’re an intimate venue. No matter the size, Vitus has become the place for metal bands to play in NYC.
But man, this show might take the cake. On Friday, September 16th, the mighty fucking Anthrax will play Vitus, with Kyng opening. That’s right, for $50 you can see Anthrax on a small stage in a room with, what, a 250 person capacity?
That not enough? The ticket price a little steep for you? It gets better — all proceeds from the show go to Gilda’s Club NYC, the charity named after comedian and SNL alum Gilda Radner who lost her life to cancer in ’89. The band chose the charity specifically in no small part due to the passing of Bernadetta “Tina” Benante, Charlie Benante’s mother and Frank Bello’s grandmother.
Bello said the following regarding the charity:
“Cancer took away one of the most important people in my life. I was at the hospital wheeling my grandmother to chemo and it was just brutal. Anything that we can do to not make people go through that hell is something we want to be involved with.”Man, psyched for Anthrax on a small stage, misty-eyed about the good cause. Props to those dudes.
Anyway, tickets for the show go on sale here this Friday, August 19th, at noon. Throw down for a good cause and then go get caught in the mosh to end all moshes.
